Cucumbers In Season at DeBruin’s!
DeBruins Greenhouses have been offering fresh herbs and lettuces for a few weeks already, and their mini cucumbers are now beginning to bear fruit.
Things you might not know about mini cucumbers:
1. They’re closely related to English cucumbers and have the same ripply skin with no spiky bits.
2. They’re *parthenocarpic,* which means they don’t require pollination to bear fruit. Their seeds tend to be undeveloped or absent entirely because of this.
3. You can now get them at the end of March in Thunder Bay, and can find them at the Thunder Bay Country Market at DeBruin’s booth, as well as through Superior Seasons Farmers Market.
Chef Markus made Stewed Cucumber as part of his March show with us. Check out the recipe here!
